Atrial Fibrillation Ablation & Appendage Closure
Atrial fibrillation is a strong risk factor for stoke, however sometimes anticoagulation or blood thinning (for example with Warfarin) is not appropriate. Atrial appendage occlusion blocks the opening of part of the atrial chamber most responsible for clots and stroke and may be used to help prevent stroke when Warfarin and other blood thinners cannot be used. Atrial fibrillation ablation, a procedure designed to cure and prevent recurrences of atrial fibrillation is also available through the St Vincent’s Hospital network.
